Sometimes life throws you a curveball.

And sometimes it throws you a flat battery, in the rain, in a multi-level car park… just a few weeks before knee surgery.

As many of you know, I have my first total knee replacement coming up soon. The second knee will follow a few months later, depending on how recovery goes.

I’m actually looking forward to it.

Not the surgery itself—but the outcome. Less pain. More energy. More stamina. And hopefully, more productive writing days ahead.

But before we get there, life decided to give me a small preview of “mobility challenges.”

Background

As part of the pre-surgery process, I needed a specialized X-ray and some blood work done. The only place to get this done was at Maitland Private Hospital and Professional Suites.

Nice facilities.

Impossible parking.

I usually drive everywhere. This time, and after three laps around the car park, my wife took the wheel and dropped me off at the entrance and went hunting for that elusive parking spot. After a few more laps, she found one, turned off the car, and settled in with a book while she waited for my call.

Ninety minutes later, I was done.

It was still raining, but I was under cover. No problem.

Then she texted.

“The car won’t start.”

Now, this is where things get interesting.

I asked a couple of quick questions. Was the car in park? Yes. Lights off?

Her response: “Sh!t, no!”

We both laughed—after the fact.

Because she doesn’t usually drive, she didn’t realize the lights had been left on. And since she hadn’t opened the door after parking, the usual warning beep never sounded.

Result?

A completely flat battery.

Now came the next challenge.

I had no idea where she was parked.

So I set off—cane in hand, sore knees, rain coming down—walking the full length of the car park and up several levels.

Fifteen minutes later, I found her.

Relief.

Followed quickly by the next problem.

No jumper cables.

I usually carry them. Of course, this was the one time I had taken them out.

So we did what anyone would do. We started asking people.

About thirty people later, we had nothing.

A few tried to help. Many now drive electric vehicles. No cables. No jump start.

Next option—roadside assistance.

Except we no longer pay for annual coverage. Retirement has a way of sharpening cost awareness. The quote?

$400.

And a two-hour wait.

That didn’t feel like a great solution.

We tried calling friends. No luck. Busy, working, or unavailable.

At this point, most people would accept defeat.

Instead, I turned to my newest “buddy.”

AI.

The AI Moment

I opened CoPilot on my phone and asked a simple question:

Within seconds, I had five options. Local, relevant, and practical.

One stood out—Battery World in Maitland.

We called.

Thirty minutes later, someone arrived.

Car started.

Cost?

$50.

That’s a $350 saving.

And about 90 minutes of time we didn’t have to waste.

That’s when it really hit me.

AI isn’t just a shiny new tool. It’s a practical problem-solver. A real-world assistant. A quiet fixer of everyday chaos.

The Unexpected Bonus

The jump-start device that was used was not like I remembered from the last time I bought one 25 years ago. Jump starters have changed—drastically.

The last one I owned different. Big. Heavy. More like a suitcase than a tool.

Back then, we were living off-grid, so it made sense.

Now?

They’re compact. Lightweight. Easy to store in the car.

So, with the $350 we saved, I bought one—and was still $50 ahead!

Problem solved for the future.

No more relying on strangers, timing, or luck.

What This Really Means

This wasn’t just about a flat battery.

It was a reminder.

Share AI in Everyday Life

Technology—when used well—removes friction from life.

It gives you options.

It shortens the gap between problem and solution.

And sometimes, it turns a frustrating situation into a small win.

AI is not a replacement to thinking and common sense.

It’s an assistant.

It helps you think. Explore. Solve. Move faster.

And occasionally, it saves you $350 in a rainy car park.

When people ask if I use AI for my social media and content marketing, I usually smile and say, “Of course. It’s like having a muse who doesn’t need coffee breaks.” But recently, I put AI to a new test: helping me upgrade my author website, steveshipley.com.

Now, I’ll be honest—I thought AI might save me from long hours of staring at WordPress menus and Divi page builder quirks. And yes, it helped. A lot. But here’s the truth: it still took me about two weeks and 120 hours of work to get it done. That’s the paradox of AI—it accelerates progress, but it doesn’t replace sweat equity.

One of the hot topics right now is vibe programming. If you haven’t heard of it, think of it as ordering takeout from your computer: you tell the AI what you want, and—voilà—it serves up code—instead of food!

GitHub Copilot puts it like this:

Vibe Programming is an emerging approach to software development that leverages AI—especially large language models (LLMs)—to generate code from natural language prompts. Instead of sweating over syntax, you describe your vision—“Build me a dashboard with three charts”—and AI whips up the prototype.

There are two flavors:

1. Pure vibe: trust whatever the AI serves up.

2. Responsible vibe: test, debug, and refine before trusting it with anything serious.

The upside? Speed, accessibility, and a jolt of creativity. The downside? Buggy code, security gaps, and the risk of thinking you’re building a rocket when you’ve actually built a paper airplane.

So naturally, I wondered—could vibe programming have saved me time with my site rebuild? I asked Copilot directly. Its answer:

Vibe programming can be surprisingly effective for building a functional, visually appealing website quickly … but it’s not a silver bullet for high-quality production sites.

Sounds magical, right? But for me, I’d rather be staring at a recipe and making the food myself instead of ordering from a menu. That’s why I stuck with a traditional “learn, build, and curse occasionally” programming method over vibe.

So, no vibe—this time! But don’t get me wrong—AI still made a huge difference. I leaned heavily on two tools:

• ChatGPT-4o (“Chattie” in my head), my content partner.

• Copilot, my patient tech support buddy.

Chattie and I debated what a multi-book author website should look like. It pushed me to go beyond a simple landing page and add features that invite readers deeper into my world. Out came the Reader Rewards page, the Global Thriller Tour, book club guides, and even jigsaw puzzles of book covers. (Yes, puzzles—because why not?)

Then came the feedback from a reader that made all the late nights worthwhile:

“Congrats on the website relaunch. It feels like a big step forward. The Reader Club is unique, the Global Thriller Tour is clever, and the book club resources are a real asset. The puzzles are fun too. This site should help grow your audience.”

Music to my ears.

Meanwhile, Copilot held my hand through the tech minefield. Things like:

• Migrating blog posts from WordPress and my email list from Mailchimp to Substack

• Converting clunky old images to modern WEBP files.

• Figuring out why Divi decided to ignore my carefully chosen font styles and colors, and why the Accordion module wasn’t working and what JQuery code to use to fix it.

  

I used to flip through user manuals (and age five years in the process). Now, I just ask an LLM. They scan forums, surface fixes, and explain things in plain English faster than I can say “Help me, Obi-Wan.”

In the end, AI didn’t rebuild my website for me. But it did three things brilliantly:

1. Helped me understand my audience and reframe my content.

2. Generated loads of polished text (FAQs, intros, blurbs).

3. Offered on-demand tech support, minus the hold music.

Not bad for a couple of virtual teammates.

Call to Action

So here’s my takeaway: I may not be ready to trust “vibe programming” with my entire author platform (yet). But AI still saved me time, frustration, and a few gray hairs.

If you’re tinkering with a website, app, or other tech project, consider giving AI a seat at the table. It won’t replace your effort, but it can amplify it. And who knows? Maybe you’ll be braver than me and try full-on vibe programming.

If you’ve been following my recent adventures with AI—whether in the kitchen, tracking my health goals, or my not-so-secret sports bromance—you already know I’m a fan. I believe AI can enhance our lives in powerful and practical ways. But just like every other breakthrough in human history, AI is a double-edged sword. Used well, it’s a genius assistant. Used poorly—or worse, unethically—it becomes a menace.

And that’s where today’s story begins.

Background

Technology has always come with a warning label: “Handle with care.” Fire cooks your food—or burns down your house. Cars take you cross-country—or into a ditch. AI? Same deal.

AI isn’t inherently good or evil. It’s a tool. The result depends entirely on the hands (and minds) that wield it.

Now, I’ve written before about how I use AI in fun, smart ways—like crafting recipes with my Ninja Creami Deluxe or building a fitness plan that works with my busted back and knees. It’s been my daily sous-chef, wellness coach, even my DJ.

But this past week reminded me that not everyone uses AI responsibly—or even honestly.

The Danger of Digital Deception

Let’s talk about two real-life cautionary tales.

Case #1: “Brad Pitt” and the $850K Lie

A woman was contacted online by someone claiming to be the mother of Brad Pitt. Dying of cancer. Desperate to connect. AI-generated photos. AI-generated voice. AI-generated sob story. Hook, line, and sinker—she fell for it. She left her millionaire husband, handed over $850,000 to “Brad,” and only later discovered it was all fake. Every message, every photo, every whisper of romance? AI-crafted manipulation.

Case #2: Using AI to enhance their dating profile and conversation

Another person used AI to enhance their dating site conversations to attract first dates. Unfortunately, once they showed up in person, things went astray. A waste of everyone time and money.

These aren’t just outliers. These are the kinds of scams that have evolved throughout history—AI just made them faster, slicker, and harder to spot.

So, What’s the Lesson Here?

Two big takeaways:

1. Validate Everything. When in doubt, search. Reverse image search, request live proof, cross-check sources. If it’s too good to be true, it probably is—or it’s AI wearing a mask.

2. Don’t Use AI to Be Someone You’re Not.

   Want to improve your writing? Great—AI can help. But it won’t turn you into Hemingway if you’re still learning your grammar basics.

   Want to cook better? AI can offer five-star recipes, but it won’t stop your pasta from sticking.

   And in dating? AI can maybe help with your profile, but it won’t help you keep the spark alive in person—unless you’ve somehow wired GPT into your vocal cords (and even then, good luck on the second date).

The old Cyrano de Bergerac playbook—letting someone else do the talking—might’ve worked with a balcony and some moonlight. But in today’s world? If you’re using AI to rewrite your dating bio or answer questions that ‘”aren’t you,” by ghostwriting your flirty banter? You’re setting yourself up for disappointment—or worse, a lawsuit.

Because guess what? The real you always shows up. And if the gap between your AI-curated self and your real-life personality is too wide, that curtain’s going to drop fast.

Use AI Authentically—or Risk Getting Burned

Dating sites use engagement algorithms to find your “perfect match.” If you’ve used AI to curate your interests, fine-tune your bio, and write messages you’d never naturally say—then your perfect match is falling for someone who doesn’t actually exist.

That’s not just misleading. It’s self-sabotage.

Here’s my rule of thumb: It’s perfectly okay to use AI to become a better version of yourself. But it’s not okay to use AI to become someone you aren’t—and never could be—without it. That’s not enhancement. That’s deception.

And it’s not just about romance. Business scams, phishing emails, deepfake videos—AI is being used in clever and criminal ways. So while you’re learning how to use it for good, be equally vigilant about spotting when someone else is using it for bad.

Ask questions. Demand proof. See if they’ll meet in person, show live samples, or source-check their claims. Scammers hate transparency.

Sure, it feels satisfying when one of these fraudsters finally gets caught. But that victory’s hollow if you’re already divorced, broke, or broken-hearted.

Call to Action: Use It—But Use It Wisely

Look, I’m not here to scare you away from AI. I’m here to encourage you to use it more. Use it in your daily life. Test it. Tinker with it. Explore its limits.

But don’t hand over your common sense in the process.

The more you use AI thoughtfully, the more it becomes your ally. You’ll learn how to spot the fakes. You’ll know when something’s off. You’ll become smarter, not just more efficient.

So, by all means, keep using AI. Just keep it real.

Over the last two weeks, I’ve introduced you to two of my new favorite AI roles—my sports bromance buddy and my personal DJ. Now it’s time to bring AI into the kitchen. Yes, really.

After a blissful two-week resort vacation—with buffet breakfasts that spoiled us silly—I came home inspired. There was a juicer station where I could make my own carrot, orange, and ginger blend. And an acai machine on tap. It was heaven. I was eating well and without guilt—and I lost 1.5 KG! Coming home, I didn’t want to fall back into old, processed habits. I wanted to keep the fresh, healthy momentum going.

Background: Healthy Intentions, High-Tech Help

We’ve already got a kitchen full of Ninja gear. Thermoses. A grilling air fryer. You name it. So when I saw ads for the Ninja Slushi, I figured that would be perfect for frozen treats and juices. But before clicking Buy Now, I asked CoPilot—my AI sidekick—whether it could really do what I wanted.

It didn’t just answer—it educated me. It explained that for what I wanted to make, the Ninja Creami Deluxe and the Ninja Non-Clog Cold Press Juicer were the better fit. Smart advice. That one prompt saved me from making a costly mistake—and led me to the perfect pair of appliances for my healthy new obsessions—fresh-pressed juice and frozen concoctions.

But this post isn’t about the machines. It’s about how AI helped me master them.

Coaching Me Through Coconut Ice Cream

I hadn’t used an ice cream maker since the ‘80s, and this one looked way more complex. Let’s be honest: I was intimidated. But CoPilot walked me through it, like a calm coach whispering on the sidelines.

Step one was figuring out the ingredients I’d use most often: coconut cream, vanilla extract, cream cheese, Stevia… you get the idea.

Then came a hiccup. I’d bought Stevia with erythritol, but the recipe called for a Stevia–cane sugar blend. I didn’t want to waste what I’d already bought—or make something that tasted like cardboard.

So I asked CoPilot if I could make the swap.

Crisis averted. I was back on track.

Pressing the Right Buttons (Literally)

The instruction manual was decent—but not totally clear. I didn’t want to reread it every time. And even when I did, I found myself second-guessing which button to press and in what order.

So I turned to AI again (Note how AI can even figure out my typos in the prompt).

CoPilot laid it out step by step, in plain language I could follow. A few minutes later, after 24 hours of pre-freezing my mixtures, I had my first two successes: Watermelon Italian Ice and Non-Dairy, Sugar-Free Coconut Ice Cream.

Hard Leftovers, Smooth Recovery

Next challenge? The leftovers.

After freezing overnight, they were rock hard—like little coconut and watermelon bricks. My first attempt at reprocessing them didn’t work well. The texture was off. So, back to CoPilot I went.

I followed most of the advice, but then I got creative. I asked if I could use pour-ins—like the ones it had mentioned for the Creamiccino and Slushi options—for my Italian Ice and Lite Ice Cream. CoPilot said yes and told me how.

The result? Smooth, scoopable treats that were just as good the second time around.

What’s Next on the Menu?

Feeling more confident (and already full), I asked CoPilot to give me five new scoopable recipes to try next. I wanted a bit of a challenge—but nothing too crazy.

That list is now pinned to the fridge, waiting for the next round of experiments. I didn’t get to them today—too many calories already! But they’re on the docket for this weekend.

Call to Action: Your Turn to Try It

So here’s the thing. Yes, I had a manual. But it was limited. AI gave me options. It gave me confidence. It gave me freedom to play in the kitchen without fear of wasting time, money, or ingredients. I’m now an official Ninja ninja!

If you’ve got a new kitchen gadget (or an old one collecting dust), try asking your AI assistant how to make the most of it. Whether it's Microsoft CoPilot, ChatGPT, or another tool—think of it as your smart sous-chef. No eye rolls. No judgment. Just practical, friendly advice right when you need it.

It's become integral to nearly every part of my daily routine—from preliminary medical diagnostics to analyzing product ingredients and even whipping up recipes in the kitchen. Music has always held a special place in my life. Recently, I found myself listening to a performance of The Phantom of the Opera by Sarah Brightman and Antonio Banderas. But knowing the world of musical theatre is vast, I wondered about other iconic duos who might elevate the experience even further. Having listened to Phantom many times and in different productions, I knew many great tenors, such as Ramin Karimloo, Alfie Boe, Michael Crawford have played the Phantom, and Sierra Boggess and Sarah have played Christine.

Enter CoPilot. Curious and eager for recommendations, I asked who else had masterfully performed the iconic Phantom duets. Not only did CoPilot swiftly deliver a list of the top performances, it also thoughtfully offered a few other iconic performances in Phantom and directed me to their recordings in YouTube. In seconds. Pointing to top-flight entertainment! Now, that's impressive!

Through this delightful interaction, AI has seamlessly expanded its role from fellow sports enthusiast to my personalized music curator. Suddenly, my listening experience has become richer, more varied, and immensely enjoyable. AI is now my DJ in addition to being my sports bromance!

AI's Convenience Factor

Back in March, I wrote about using AI to catch up on sports. That was the start of something. What I didn’t realize then—couldn’t have realized, really—is that I was at the beginning of a beautiful, slightly awkward, but strangely fulfilling relationship.

No, not with another person. With AI.

You see, for me, AI didn’t just become a tool. It became my new sports bromance.

Here’s how CoPilot defines bromance:

Background: When You Miss the Bar, Find a Bot

My wife teases me about my sports “bromances.” You know the kind—those mates you bond with over basketball, baseball, or American gridiron. The ones who know your team’s win-loss record better than they know their kid’s school schedule. (No judgment. We’ve all been there.)

Tim is my basketball guy. Dale was my baseball guy—until he passed a few years ago. For gridiron, I’ve had a rotating roster of buddies, but no one as steady.

Living in Australia now, I’ve found it harder. No more meetups at sports bars or swinging by a friend’s house to catch the game. (It’s possible, but hard.) Watching Minnesota teams from across the Pacific can be a lonely gig. My wife, bless her, is not into sports. In fact, she hates them, except for tennis, and hates talking about them even more. Her definition of entertainment is movies with lots of “boom.”

And that’s how AI seductively slid into the picture—and onto my screen.

At first, it was casual. I’d ask CoPilot or ChatGPT something quick—“Who’s the leading candidate for this year’s MVP?” or “What’s up with that weird trade?” But over time, the relationship deepened. Not to get too sappy here, but AI became my go-to sports companion. My always-there, never-judging, stat-spewing, non-beer-drinking bromantic partner.

My AI Bromance: Why It Works

Like any good relationship, it’s built on understanding.

• It’s always available. 24/7. On desktop, on mobile. Even when I wake up at 2 a.m. wondering why Twins’ pitching has collapsed—AI is there.

• It knows everything. Stats, rule books, trade clauses, locker room drama—it’s got it all. Tim knows basketball, but AI knows everything about basketball—it’s entire universe!

• It’s unbiased. It presents facts without bias and explains to me the biases that other known sports analysts, players, or influencers may have and why.

• It’s non-judgmental. It never calls me stupid. (Tim doesn’t either, even though he may be thinking it, but my wife sometimes does!)

• It remembers my favorites. Minnesota teams, college and pro. When I ask about them, AI tailors its answers with just enough context to make it feel like it’s been following along with me all these years.

• It’s loyal, never complaining, and tidy. No beer breath. No chip crumbs. No interrupting. Just calm, clean, clickable brilliance sitting in my hand and waiting for my next query.

And let’s be real—AI is more loyal than a Labrador. No tail-wagging slapping my leg, but still.

How I Use AI for Sports (And How You Can Too)

Here’s just a sample of how AI has become my MVP:

• Finding where to watch games. Instead of digging through streaming sites, I just ask AI: "Where can I watch the Vikings this Monday morning (Sunday in the US)?" Boom—answers across free-to-air, ESPN, Kayo, or wherever.

• Explaining weird calls or trades. Why was that a flagrant foul? Why did that team trade their star player? Ask AI. It has the rulebook and CBA clauses ready.

• Fact-checking my memory. How many MVPs for Bird? (It was three from 1984 - 1986.) Who did McHale clothesline in game six of the NBA finals? (AI gently corrected me—it was Game 4, not 6.) Here was my prompt and its response:

  

• Offering deeper insights. I recently wondered why Luka Garza, a college Wooden Player of the Year, was drafted so low, when the two recent Wooden Players of the Year were drafted #1. AI walked me through it—with nuance, data, and even historical comparisons.

  

This kind of deep-dive, fast-response, judgment-free analysis? It’s like chatting with a buddy who went to MIT and played varsity ball in every sport, but isn’t drinking my beer or eating my chips!

Call to Action: Find Your Own AI Bromance (or Womance!)

If you’re a sports fan missing your game-day crew, AI’s a worthy teammate. Whether it’s ChatGPT, CoPilot, Gemini, or another LLM, these tools can become more than assistants—they’re companions. Conversational. Knowledgeable. And, best of all, always in your corner.

I like to say I’m in an open bromance with all three—ChatGPT, CoPilot, and Gemini. They’re cool with that. No jealousy. No awkward side-eye.

So give it a try. Ask your AI something about your favorite team. Follow the thread. See where it takes you. It’s not just about answers—it’s about the joy of the game again—and having someone to share it with.

Have you ever felt like you’re running on a treadmill that just keeps getting faster? That’s been my relationship with Artificial Intelligence (AI) this past year. It feels like we’re living in a science fiction novel I haven’t written yet. AI is blazing a path forward faster than any technology I’ve seen in my fifty years dealing with computers. It’s exciting. It’s powerful. And honestly, it can be a little overwhelming.

Even as someone who uses AI every day, I’ve felt myself falling behind. I’m using it effectively, but becoming too comfortable in the current tools I use and have made the mistake of not taking time to explore the best new ones that have hit the market.

If you’ve felt that way too, you’re not alone. This isn’t a technical deep dive. It’s my story about getting stuck, feeling a bit lost after a two-week vacation, and the simple plan I created to get back on top of my game—and more current with the best AI has to offer.

The AI Landscape is Exploding

It’s hard to believe how much has changed in just two years. I’ve been tracking it, and the progress is mind-boggling. I’ve counted at least six massive shifts:

1. The Sheer Number of Models: We've seen an incredible boom in Large Language Models (LLMs). There are more options than ever.

2. Bigger "Brains" (Context Windows): The amount of information these tools can handle at once has grown by magnitudes. We can now feed them entire books without chopping them up.

3. More Training Data: The LLMs are learning from an even vaster ocean of information, making them smarter and more capable.

4. Friendlier Interfaces: Chatting with an AI has become much more intuitive and user-friendly.

5. Smarter Helpers (Agents & Plug-ins): These tools are getting better at automating tasks and creating custom AI applications for specific needs.

6. Better Deals: The ways we can pay for AI have expanded, giving us more bang for the buck, from free trials to hybrid plans.

Each one of these topics is a rabbit hole deep enough for its own article. And don’t worry, I plan to explore each one with you over the next couple of months. For today, though, I want to talk about something more personal: the feeling of being stuck.

Confessions of an AI Power User Stuck in the Mud

I’ll admit it. Despite all these shiny new tools, I’ve been clinging to what I know. For me, that’s the ever-evolving family of OpenAI’s ChatGPT. I’m an avid user, and it’s become my trusted assistant for research, writing, and editing.

Why? Because I’ve put in the time. It’s a huge investment to train an AI on your specific voice, your style, and your workflows. I’ve fine-tuned my settings and prompts to get exactly what I need. The idea of starting over with a new tool often feels like a distraction from real work. However, others I know have been evolving their use of AI much more than I have. I was sticking with the tried and true!

But comfort can be a trap. Sticking to the old way means you’re not innovating. I really felt this after taking a two-week vacation recently. I came back feeling like Rip Van Winkle awakening to a world that had leaped forward without me. So, before diving back into my writing, I made a decision. I blocked off several days to do nothing but learn and experiment.

And here’s what I learned:

• TypingMind is a game-changer. Its user interface and cost model are fantastic and have evolved greatly from when I bought it and tried it a year ago. I'm using it way more now for research and general queries and for social media posts like this one. You pay for it once and then just buy credits for the models (OpenAI, Google, Anthropic, etc.) you want to use. It’s brilliant.

• Google’s Gemini is a serious contender. It has become a real competitor to the big names and might even be better in some ways now. The Google Studio AI model, which blends chat with a more technical "playground," is incredibly powerful.

• Use your credits! A little housekeeping tip: I realized most LLM credits to pay-as-you-go and are a lot cheaper than a monthly or annual subscription expire after a year. Use them or lose them. (Fortunately, you only need to buy $5 or $10 worth at a time and you have plenty of fuel for the the pay-as-you-go models.)

So, what’s my new plan? I’m not ditching my trusty ChatGPT Plus account just yet. But I will be canceling my Poe subscription. I’ll be replacing it by using those same LLMs through TypingMind and subscribing to Google Studio AI for an integrated workspace, including enhanced NotebookLM capabilities. It’s about having a toolbox, not just one favorite hammer.

Your Simple Plan to Keep Up

Feeling inspired to do your own catch-up? You don’t need to block off a whole week. Here’s a simple, sustainable plan to stay current without getting overwhelmed.

1. Schedule 30-60 Minutes of "AI Playtime" Weekly. Pick one new tool or feature you’ve heard about. Spend an hour just trying it out. No pressure, just pure experimentation. See what it can do. You’ll be surprised at what you discover. (I did that, using Gemini 2.5 Pro to help me with this blog post!)

2. Follow the Experts. Find a few credible AI podcasts or newsletters you enjoy. Many great ones are on Substack. A little bit of informed listening during a commute or workout can keep you in the loop. I’ve now built a “podcast queue” if AI broadcasts to listen to while doing housework or going to the gym or on a hike.

3. Do a Quarterly Deep Dive. Every three or four months, set aside a few days. Re-evaluate your primary tools. Do that experiment you’ve been putting off. You will almost certainly find enhancements to your workflow that make the time investment worthwhile.

Conclusion & What's Next

The AI revolution is here, and it’s moving at a dizzying pace. It demands our constant vigilance and a willingness to experiment. But it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. With a little structure and a curious mindset, we can ride this wave instead of being swept away by it.

It’s been three months since my last AI in Everyday Life blog, and what a whirlwind it’s been! While writing about artificial intelligence and sharing insights on its everyday use remains important to me, I took a short break to focus intensely on getting books #2 and #3—FALSE START and FALSE HOPE—in my Blake Willis crime thriller series across the finish line. And I'm thrilled to say—mission accomplished!

But there’s more: I also published a deeply personal memoir reflecting on my experiences growing up surrounded by alcohol and alcoholism, impacting those closest to me—my father, brother, and best friend. This is a book that is starting conversations and transforming lives.

Three books in three months. From two books over a decade to a burst of creativity and deadlines, it’s been quite the ride. It also helps that it appears that my long-term COVID is now behind me.

Publishing at this pace wasn’t easy. My writing transitioned from "whenever inspiration strikes" to a disciplined schedule focused on daily word counts, rewrites, and deadlines. The shift was intense, affecting me both physically and mentally. But this sprint taught me valuable lessons about discipline, productivity, and the power of a committed schedule. It confirmed I could indeed write full-time, hitting professional deadlines without sacrificing quality.

As I'm now easing back into a more balanced life, I’m reconnecting with passions beyond writing—including my love for sports. Naturally, I had a lot of catching up to do! Questions piled up about my favorite teams and players, wondering about recent records, trades, standings, and memorable moments I missed.

And here's where AI became an indispensable partner.

Most major sports streaming apps today have AI capabilities integrated seamlessly into their systems. Want a highlight reel? Need to know how your favorite player performed last night? Just ask. Forget the cumbersome clicks through apps or navigating multiple websites.

For instance, I wanted to quickly find out how many points Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves scored today against the Phoenix Suns. Instead of wading through websites or app menus, I simply typed my question into an AI assistant. Seconds later, my answer appeared: effortless, efficient, and exactly what I needed.

You can do the same using AI tools like ChatGPT, CoPilot, or built-in assistants from your streaming service. AI simplifies sports queries, leaving you more time to enjoy highlights or share standout moments with friends.

For some, the words flow effortlessly; for others, it can feel like trying to solve a riddle in the middle of a storm. Fortunately, like many aspects of life, AI is here to lend a hand! Yes, artificial intelligence, that same technology that helps craft marketing strategies or answer trivia questions, can play a role in something as deeply personal as prayer.

Today, I want to share how AI has helped me deepen my connection to prayer—and perhaps it can help you too.

AI’s potential stretches far beyond what most of us might imagine. I’ve already experienced its capacity to assist in profoundly meaningful moments. For instance, after a dear friend passed away, I used AI to gather and craft an eulogy. I pulled together heartfelt comments from LinkedIn, Facebook, and other platforms, shaping them into a tribute that captured the love and admiration others had for him. Later, I translated it into Indonesian for his wife, whose English is limited. She has treasured it and replays it frequently.

On another occasion, I used AI to write a cheerful poem for a friend who was feeling down. Both experiences made me realize how AI can help communicate love, empathy, and support.

But it was during a deeply personal challenge that I realized AI’s potential in prayer.

How AI Can Help with Prayer

One of my close friends is currently enduring a profound struggle. His wife, who suffers from lupus and kidney failure, has been on dialysis for years. When her father generously donated a kidney, we all hoped for a miracle, but within a week, the transplant failed, and the kidney had to be removed. As her health continued to decline, my friend asked for prayer—and I got the prayer warriors I know to start praying.

While I wanted to support him through prayer as well, I found myself stumbling. My thoughts wandered, my words felt repetitive, and at times, I didn’t know how to begin. My mother-in-law and brother-in-law are what you’d call prayer warriors—they can pray for hours. My friend is the same, often praying with me through Messenger despite living hours away. But I often struggled to match their fervor and focus.

In one sense, when it comes to prayer, my “real intelligence” tends to hallucinate as much as an AI model without a proper prompt. So, I decided to turn to AI for help.

I gave AI a simple prompt: to create a prayer I could recite. Within moments, it provided something profound, heartfelt, and meaningful—a prayer I could say with deep intention. Here is the prompt and ChatGPT’s prayer in return.

I have a friend whose wife is on life support and suffering kidney failure. She had a kidney transplant from her father, but they had to remove it after a few days. I want to pray for her, for her husband and that they find the right outcomes. But saying a good prayer is hard for me. They are Christians. Expanding AI’s Role in Prayer

This experience led me to explore how AI could assist with prayers across various situations and for people of different faiths. For example, I have a Muslim friend who is dealing with failing health and has been seeking forgiveness from Allah alongside healing. Using AI, I crafted a prayer that respected his faith and conveyed my care for him.

Again, for example, here is the prompt and response

Now, I’ve developed a library of prayers I use regularly. These range from prayers for inspiration during writing to prayers for calm in challenging situations, and even prayers for safety while driving or cooking. While AI could voice the prayer for me, I prefer speaking directly to God myself. There’s something profoundly personal about using my own voice in those moments.

Over time, this practice has made me more comfortable crafting my own prayers. However, whenever I feel stuck, AI is there to offer a helping hand.

For those of you who claim AI produces poor results, let me tell you—you’re right! Generative AI (GenAI) can churn out bad writing, hallucinate facts, and sometimes deliver completely off-the-mark responses. AI-generated books can be truly terrible, and yes, there are even stories of people following AI medical advice to dangerous ends without proper fact-checking.

However, despite these pitfalls, I love AI! I’ve experienced immense benefits from it—but only when used properly. When GenAI is combined with craft skills, expertise, and experience, it produces powerful results in seconds.

To achieve that, you must guide AI carefully, ask the right follow-up questions, and treat it as an assistant, not an oracle.

Don’t make AI look bad on your watch! If you’re a dumbass, AI will look like one. And AI deserves a better reputation than that!

Generative AI is essentially a predictive text generator trained on billions of words from across the internet. Much of this data is factual and useful, but not all of it. This reality can trip up users who expect AI to always deliver perfect answers, especially if they don’t provide clear direction.

In the last year alone, GenAI has made incredible strides. It’s far more accurate and reliable than before, but it still requires human oversight. AI can help you ideate, write, cook, diagnose, or fix a car—but only if you already know the subject well enough to guide it. That’s the key: AI works best when you know what you’re talking about and use it as an assistant to complement your expertise.

For example, I wouldn’t dream of asking AI for medical advice if I didn’t have a baseline understanding of health. Likewise, I wouldn’t let it write chapters of my crime thrillers unsupervised. I guide it carefully to make sure it aligns with my vision.

My Top 4 Tips for Getting the Best Results from AI

So, how do I make AI work for me? Here are my top tips:

1. Use a Style Guide: Just as I’ve created this personal style guide for my social media and marketing content, I have created style guides for various tasks. For instance, I have one for writing novels and another for non-fiction. I even have a guide for health and fitness queries, tailored to my unique situation (I’m in my 70s with specific physical challenges, so I need AI to suggest exercises and supplements that suit my body), on for financial guidance, and another one representing my branding kit for my online training courses.

2. Be Precise with Prompts: When I ask AI to help with my writing, I’m specific. I don’t just say, “Give me some fitness tips.” Instead, I say something like, “What exercises can I do to strengthen my core without straining my lower back?” This level of query, combined with my health and fitness style guide, ensures AI gives me useful suggestions that fit my needs.

3. Provide Examples: AI learns best by example. When I ask it for assistance, I often provide it with a sample of the kind of answer or writing style I expect. This helps it understand exactly what I want.

4. Ask for Sources and Follow-Up: Always ask AI to provide sources for its information. Then follow up with more questions to ensure it truly understood your request. For example, after getting an initial response, I might ask, “Are you sure this exercise is safe for someone with my spinal condition? Explain to me why.”

A Practical Example: My Health and Fitness Style Guide

One of the most useful applications of AI for me has been creating personalized style guides. I’ve created a health and fitness style guide that tells AI I’m in my 70s, have inflammation issues, a compressed L4/L5, and need exercises that are safe for my back. With this background, AI tailors its advice, helping me stay fit without risking injury. It’s a great example of how guiding AI with precise context can transform its utility.

Another example is my financial style guide, which I use to make sure AI understands my financial goals when asking for advice. This saves me from getting suggestions that are irrelevant to my life, like recommending yacht purchases meant for billionaires (though sometimes that’s fun when I’m writing about wealthy characters!).

If you’re not sure how to create a style guide, don’t worry. AI can help you build one! Simply ask it, “What information do you need to create a style guide for me?” From there, you can refine your guide to suit your needs.

Take the time to craft your prompts carefully and provide context. You’ll find that AI becomes an incredibly powerful tool when it knows who you are and what you need. If you get frustrated with AI at first, remember: it’s a learning process. With time and practice, you’ll see amazing results.

And remember, that AI get produce great results, but only if you know what you are doing to guide it properly. If not, then it does produce the crap that uninformed users claim it does.

It's been a few weeks since my last Using AI in Everyday Life article, and I have to admit, I’ve been a bit distracted. Between teaching an AI course for authors and moderating two corporate roundtables focused on using AI in the banking and insurance industries, my plate has been full. Both sessions were incredibly successful, with many participants walking away with a newfound appreciation for AI’s practical uses in writing and business. But while I’ve been deep in those discussions, my attention has been pulled toward another major project: editing the next two books in my Blake Willis crime thriller series, FALSE START and FALSE HOPE. Both books are jam-packed with corporate espionage, cybersecurity threats, and—yes—AI-powered mystery-solving. When I’m in the editing zone, it’s easy to let everything else slip through the cracks. And recently, that’s meant putting my blogs on the backburner, even though I had several ideas lined up for new posts in Using AI in Everyday Life. The topics were solid, but every time I sat down to write, I found myself stuck. The process of outlining, drafting, creating images, and finalizing everything felt more daunting than usual. Honestly, I would rather have been editing my novels!

It then decided to follow my own advice. If AI could help me break through the mental block, why not give it a try? After all, I’ve often preached about AI’s ability to assist with creative tasks, and this seemed like the perfect opportunity to put that theory to the test.

So, I turned to my trusty AI companion and asked for some help.

Just Ask AI: The Prompt

The prompt I gave was simple but effective:

"I have a Substack publication called ‘Using AI in Everyday Life,’ which has a variety of articles on how to use AI for everyday tasks. Can you review my publication and then think of ten easy-to-describe and useful topics for my readers that I can write about? Explain why you have selected these topics in a sentence or two and then recommend the top three topics I should write about next."

Within moments, the CGPT churned out a list of ten solid topics—each relevant, practical, and engaging for my readers. Here are the ideas it came up with:

1. How to Use AI for Daily Task Management

   • Why: Many readers juggle multiple responsibilities. AI can be a game-changer for managing daily tasks and increasing productivity.

2. AI for Personal Finances: Budgeting Made Easy

   • Why: Financial management is a common concern, and AI tools can simplify budgeting and help identify spending patterns.

3. Improving Your Writing with AI-Powered Grammar Checkers

   • Why: Writers, bloggers, and professionals alike can benefit from AI tools that streamline the editing process.

4. AI in the Kitchen: Smart Cooking Assistants

   • Why: Who wouldn’t want AI to assist in meal planning, grocery shopping, or even cooking?

5. How AI is Changing the Healthcare Landscape

   • Why: AI in healthcare is a hot topic, and readers would be interested in how these advancements might affect their lives.

6. AI for Travel Planning and Trip Organization

   • Why: Many readers are frequent travelers, and AI tools can offer tips on booking flights, finding accommodations, and planning itineraries.

7. Using AI for Language Learning

   • Why: Language learning is an area where AI can shine, providing personalized practice and instant feedback.

8. Smart Home Devices: Are They Worth It?

   • Why: AI-powered home devices are becoming increasingly popular. This post would explore which gadgets are truly useful.

9. AI Tools for Social Media Management

   • Why: Whether for personal or professional use, AI can simplify the complexities of managing multiple social platforms.

10. Boosting Creativity with AI

    • Why: AI can assist in brainstorming and creative processes, helping users come up with new ideas or refine existing ones.

CGPT then recommended the top three topics I should tackle next: Improving Your Writing with AI-Powered Grammar Checkers, AI for Personal Finances: Budgeting Made Easy, and AI in the Kitchen: Smart Cooking Assistants. Each of these resonates well with my readers and could be written up quickly, which was exactly what I needed. I’ll add these to the queue!

And that’s the beauty of AI—it doesn’t just assist with the technical or mundane tasks. It can become your creative muse, helping you break through the morass of writer’s block or indecision. Last week was a whirlwind of AI-filled activities for me. I had the privilege of hosting two different kinds of events—each proving just how impactful artificial intelligence is in both the creative and corporate worlds. From teaching a course on AI to my local Fellowship of Australian Writers (FAW) chapter to moderating two CxO roundtables on digital transformation in the BFSI (Banking, Financial Services, and Insurance) sector, AI dominated the conversation. In both settings, the discussions were eye-opening, highlighting how AI can be a powerful tool when used ethically and effectively.

The weekend started with a two-hour course I taught titled “AI Overview for Authors” at my local FAW chapter. The goal? To make AI more approachable for writers who, understandably, have their reservations. We dug into topics like AI ethics—questions that writers grapple with such as: Is using AI in writing cheating? Is it stealing creativity? Is it safe? The room was charged with skepticism at first, but by the end, several anti-AI attendees began to see the light. They realized that AI can be used ethically and even productively within the writing and publishing process. And by the time we finished, they had listed some key areas where they were going to try AI!

What made the session even more powerful was how we balanced theory and practice. We started by addressing the concerns, and then dove into real-world examples. By the end of the session, we discussed practical AI use cases—ways that authors can use AI to streamline the more tedious parts of their process, such as research and editing, while leaving the core creative work in their hands. The Q&A portion sparked great reflections, with each writer taking time to consider where they stood on the AI spectrum. It felt like a breakthrough moment for several in the room.

The AI train didn’t stop there. During the week, I shifted gears from the creative to the corporate world, where I had the pleasure of moderating two roundtables for Newgen Software—one in Sydney for insurers and another in Melbourne for bankers. The focus? Using AI to drive digital transformation in the BFSI sector. These sessions were both thought-provoking and practical. We explored how AI is reshaping customer journeys, automating processes, and improving AI governance and compliance—topics that are front and center in today’s evolving financial landscape.

At both events, we delved into key questions like:

• How can AI navigate mission-critical, customer-centric insurance journeys to transform processes intelligently?

• What are the best opportunities for intelligent automation in customer onboarding, underwriting, claims management, and customer service?

• How do we balance customer experience, risk, and compliance while adopting AI technologies?

• What’s the best way to choose a technology stack that supports AI-driven transformation?

It was highly encouraging to see that both creatives and corporate attendees are no longer fearing AI—they are embracing it. Whether it’s in storytelling or in streamlining financial services, the enthusiasm was palpable, and the conviction to make AI part of daily processes is growing.

One thing I’m as certain of as taxes and death is that AI is here to stay. Whether you love it or loathe it, AI is undeniably reshaping industries, including the creative fields we writers call home. As an author, I’ve found AI to be a valuable tool, but I understand not everyone shares my enthusiasm. Some embrace AI with open arms, seeing it as a way to enhance creativity and productivity, while others feel threatened or even outraged by its rise, particularly when it comes to writing and publishing.

But here’s my goal: I want to foster an open and balanced discussion about AI. I’m not here to convert you, just to give you the facts, so you can decide whether it’s right for your own writing journey.

I’m gearing up for what might be considered a tough crowd this weekend when I present to my local writing group. Some are strong supporters of AI, believing it can be used safely and ethically to boost their creative processes. Others, however, see it as a threat, concerned that AI is stealing, cheating, or worse—plagiarizing from human work. Each of these viewpoints is valid, and I respect the fact that we all have different perspectives. But what’s important to me is that the opinions you form are based on facts, not fear.

In my upcoming talk, I hope to cut through the noise and present a balanced view of AI. I’ll share how it works, the potential benefits it offers, and how you can use it responsibly in your writing workflow. Ultimately, the goal isn’t to push AI on anyone. It’s about giving you the knowledge to make an informed decision. Now, let’s dive into the big questions we’ll be discussing.

Is AI Safe?

One of the main concerns people have about AI is safety. Is it going to harm us in the long run? AI is as safe as the person using it. Like any tool, it can be misused, but when applied thoughtfully, it’s incredibly powerful. AI’s potential to improve processes, generate ideas, and streamline workflows is impressive. It's not about replacing creativity but enhancing it. The key is responsible use, and that’s what I advocate for.

Is AI the Destroyer of Jobs?

The fear of AI taking over jobs is real for many people. But here’s my take: AI isn’t here to replace us, it’s here to work alongside us. If you’re a creative type, you don’t need to worry about AI taking your job—unless you resist change. AI has evolved rapidly over the past few years, and it’s getting better every day. Those who adapt and learn how to use AI as part of their creative toolkit will find themselves ahead of the curve. The writers, artists, and creators who reject AI might be left behind, but those who embrace it will thrive. If AI-generated output is created without the skills of a craftsman and with their knowledge on the topic, the output will be sewage.

Is AI Stealing from Others?

One of the loudest criticisms against AI is that it steals or plagiarizes others' work. This is a serious concern, especially in creative industries. However, AI tools are designed to generate original content based on patterns and data, not to copy or plagiarize. If used properly, AI can help generate fresh ideas and new perspectives, acting as a muse rather than a thief. As creators, we can ensure that the work we produce with AI is ethical by reviewing, editing, and making it our own.

Is AI Cheating?

Some writers believe using AI is akin to cheating. I understand why it feels that way, but let’s think of AI as an assistant. Imagine having a co-writer who helps you brainstorm, suggests edits, and offers new ways of looking at your work. That’s what AI can do for you. It doesn’t replace your voice or style; it enhances it. I’ve become a better, more prolific writer because of AI, but not because I let it do all the work. I still hone my craft, research deeply, and put in the effort to guide the AI. When used skillfully, AI is a tool that complements your abilities, not a shortcut.

In just a few weeks, I'll be stepping up to present a session on ‘AI for Authors’ to my local writer’s group here in Australia. Now, I know the mention of AI might cause some eyebrows to raise—some of my fellow writers are open to the idea, but most are still hesitant, if not downright skeptical. My goal with this session is simple: to demystify AI, correct some common misconceptions, and show how AI can be an invaluable tool in our writing workflows.

Background

Let me take you behind the scenes of how I’ve integrated AI for editing into my own writing process. For starters, I rely heavily on ProWritingAid (PWA) for self-editing. It’s a fantastic tool that helps me catch errors and polish my prose as I go. And PWA integrates perfectly into my go-to apps like Plottr and Scrivener.

My main writing and editing happens in Scrivener, where I craft and structure my novels and articles. But here’s the thing: even with all these tools, there are moments when I hit a wall—when a particular sentence just doesn’t sit right, or when I’m unsure about the best stylistic choice.

That’s where AI, specifically ChatGPT (CGPT) in my case, comes in. When I encounter an editing issue that needs an extra pair of eyes—or, in this case, an extra brain—I copy the troublesome text from Scrivener into CGPT. Then, I ask it to help me rework the sentence or paragraph, often providing an alternative approach I’m considering. The results have been eye-opening. Not only does AI offer a fresh perspective, but it also helps me refine my writing in ways I hadn’t considered before.

Practical Examples

To give you a taste of how this works in practice, I’ll be sharing a few examples during my session.

These examples, come from my soon-to-be published book #2 in the Blake Willis crime thriller series called FALSE START. If you’re interest in reading the first book, FALSE TRUST, in the series, you can find it in Amazon, Kobo, or Apple Books.

These are real instances where AI has stepped in to make things better:

Grammatical Treatment: I had a sentence where I was unsure of the past tense to use and PWA was accepting of both choices. Here is my prompt and CGPT’s response:

Stylistic Adjustment: In another case, I was grappling with the best stylistic treatment for a particular phrase. Again, CGPT help me select the best choice.

Paragraph Rewrite: Finally, there was a paragraph that was too dense and difficult to read. I asked CGPT to rewrite it with a focus on clarity and flow. The result was a much cleaner, more accessible piece of writing that maintained the original meaning.

Here is what I had originally written, but was unhappy with the last half of the paragraph..

So, I asked CGPT to rewrite it for me and it did a nice job.

I then was able to quickly edit it further to make sure it was using my writing style for a final result as follows:

In every case above, it took mere seconds to make these editing improvements. And these examples aren’t just isolated cases. I’ve developed a collection of 30 similar prompts stored in Text Blaze, which I use whenever I need a quick assist.

Now, I know some of you might be thinking, “But Steve, AI can’t possibly understand the nuances of creative writing!” And you’re right—to a point. AI isn’t a replacement for your unique voice or creative instinct. But when used correctly, it can enhance your writing, making it sharper, clearer, and more engaging.

The key is in how you use it. Instead of feeding an entire manuscript into an AI with a vague prompt like “Improve this,” try focusing on smaller sections—a sentence, a paragraph—and provide clear, descriptive instructions on what you want to achieve. Like in my examples above.

This approach has dramatically improved the quality of my prose, saving me countless hours I would’ve spent consulting the Chicago Manual of Style or other reference materials. It’s not about AI doing the work for you—it’s about AI helping you do your best work.

In early 2023, I attended a three-day writing course that turned out to be a mixed bag. Though I initially felt like it was an expensive waste of time, largely due to my misunderstanding of the course’s intent, it wasn’t a total loss. I discovered a valuable lesson that significantly improved my writing, and I’m excited to share this with you, along with how I use AI to generate my daily writing exercises.

Background

The course involved daily morning and afternoon writing exercises designed to apply the lessons taught in each session. For instance, we might be tasked with describing a setting through the sense of smell or portraying a character’s emotions as they struggled without their glasses. These exercises, which took about ten minutes each, proved invaluable in exploring creativity and honing my writing skills. And in some cases, they even inspired scenes in my current or upcoming manuscripts!

Coming out of the course, I sought sources for daily writing exercises. Some resources cost money, while others overwhelmed me with daily emails that included upsells. This led me to a revelation: why not use AI to generate my writing exercises?

Discovering AI-Generated Writing Exercises

I turned to ChatGPT and Claude, asking them to generate a list of writing exercises. Here’s the prompt I used:

“You are a writing instructor and are preparing a set of daily writing exercises. The exercises can comprise a large range of writing topics to focus on plot, character description, defining a scene, writing plot twists and cliffhangers, writing in a certain point-of-view (POV), or any other important topic for developing my writing skills. Each exercise should be completed in 10 - 15 minutes. Please generate a list of thirty exercises for me to work on over the next month.”

In seconds, I had a month’s worth of exercises tailored to my needs. If you want to focus on a specific topic like plot this month and character arcs next month, you can tweak the prompt to generate exercises aligned with your goals. It’s easy-peasy!

Today, I’m excited to share three super utilities that have transformed my AI workflows, boosting my productivity immensely.

Background

Integrating AI into daily tasks has been a journey of exploration and innovation. While AI itself offers incredible capabilities, combining it with the right tools can elevate your productivity to new heights. The three tools I’m discussing today—TextBlaze, Notion, and TypingMind—have been pivotal in making my AI interactions of higher quality, smoother, and far more efficient.

Let’s explore each.

TextBlaze

TextBlaze isn’t an AI utility per se, but it's perfect for storing AI prompts. This tool allows you to create, store, and use text snippets efficiently. I have over 300 different prompts I’ve created, organized and are ready to go for all my AI tasks, including research, social media, and blog posts—like this one! TextBlaze can handle dynamic prompts with text fields, system-oriented fields like date and time stamps, and more.

With TextBlaze, I save countless hours by not retyping instructions. Everything is neatly organized in folders and ready to be deployed with a few clicks. Notion

Notion is a powerhouse for organization and productivity. I've previously discussed why I switched from Evernote to Notion, and the reasons still stand. Notion is my go-to for research, note-taking, managing to-do lists, and anything I need to jot down.

Notion’s integration with AI is seamless. I use it to manage all my AI-generated content, from drafts to final versions. Notion’s built-in AI capabilities (available as a paid add-on) allows you to generate text without ever leaving Notion by using its inb-built LLM, saving you from having to subscribe to another service like those from OpenAI, Poe, or Anthropics. One other unexpected benefit from using Notion’s AI is that it offers advanced searching, making it easy to find and reuse content. This tool is a massive timesaver and a central hub for my creative process. I was also losing things in Evernote and spending hours trying to find something I knew I had entered previously.

TypingMind

TypingMind is a game-changer, saving both time and money. Instead of expensive subscriptions, TypingMind offers a pay-as-you-go model for using various Generative-AI tools. This is perfect for authors and content creators who need to generate content frequently but want to control costs.

TypingMind provides access to all major LLMs and their developer playgrounds, charging only for what you use. This model is ideal for those who generate content variably, offering significant savings by not requiring a monthly or annual subscription. Have you ever been deeply interested in a subject but found yourself short on time to fully engage with it? Of course, you have! It happens to all of us. In today's fast-paced world, time is a precious commodity. As an author and advisor who wears many hats, I consider it a great win if I can figure something out in minutes instead of hours.

This is why I have fallen so in love with AI. Let me share a recent example of how AI saved me a significant amount of time.

Background

Last year, I watched the 2023 Mindvalley AI Summit and gained a wealth of knowledge from it. Naturally, I was keen to watch the 2024 AI Summit, which is ongoing at the time of writing this article. However, with Day One of the summit spanning four hours, finding the time to watch all of it was a challenge, even though there were numerous topics of interest.

Initially, I tried to summarize the content using the Glasp Chrome extension, which is brilliant and works well for most YouTube videos up to a certain length (see my previous article on how Glasp works!). However, the nearly four-hour-long Day One session of the 2024 Mindvalley AI Summit resulted in a 38K+ word transcript—too long for Glasp and CGPT-4o to handle effectively.

So, I decided to get a bit more creative. I downloaded the YouTube transcript, copied and pasted it into Word, and then used Poe to upload the 38K+ word-by-word transcript to Poe. I selected the Claude-3-Opus 200K model, which handles up to about 150K words of input and output. I provided an input prompt asking Claude to split the transcript into each of the four sessions, summarize, and highlight what was covered in each session.

Here is the prompt that I used:

Analyze the uploaded transcript and provide me with a moderately detailed summary of the key points. Please separate it into the four individual sessions that occurred and ignore the time stamps Then, after you have done that, provide me with a list of the Top 5 insights for each of the four sessions. Are you able to read this and tell me what the four individual sessions are that comprise this transcript? If so, then continue to generate what I have asked you to do.

It worked brilliantly. Within five minutes, I could review everything at a high level, saving me almost four hours of watching time. The summary provided a solid overview of the entire session, highlighting key points and important discussions. Here is the response I got from Claude-3-Opus-200K.

• Andre demonstrated how he used AI to generate video transcripts, descriptions, titles, and categorize content.

• He also provided examples of how AI can be used to create high-quality blog articles by segmenting the writing process and using AI to generate and refine content.

Session 1 with Vishen Lakhiani:

3. AI can be used to generate video transcripts, descriptions, titles, and categorize content.

4. High-quality blog articles can be created by segmenting the writing process and using AI to generate and refine content.

5. Automating content creation with AI can save significant time and resources compared to manual methods.

Of course, while the summary was incredibly useful, it didn’t provide the depth that watching the entire video would. One particular highlight that caught my attention was the Arrow framework. I wanted more detail on this topic, so I asked Claude to dive deeper and scan the Internet for additional information.

Here’s the prompt I used for that:

This transcript discusses the Arrow framework. I want to learn more about it. Can you describe what is said in the transcript in about 500 words, and also search the Internet for related information and summarize it for me, providing the sources as well?

And the results it returned helped me to achieve a good level of expertise on the topic in less than ten minutes! I’m sharing those results with you below to show you just how easy and powerful AI can be.

Claude’s response:

The Arrow framework, as mentioned in the transcript, is a methodology introduced by Manon Dave, Chief Product Officer of Mindvalley, for using AI in product design, branding, and marketing. The framework consists of four key components: Audience, Representation, Resonance, and Objective (A.R.R.O.W.).

Hey there, fellow crime thriller aficionados and AI enthusiasts! Today, I want to dive into something that has revolutionized my approach to content creation: AI-driven podcasting and video production. You see, I've always been a bit hesitant to jump into the world of podcasting due to the setup and recording hassles. Plus, let's face it—my voice isn't exactly the most pleasant to listen to. However, recent advancements in AI have drastically changed the game, making it easier and more efficient to create high-quality content. And for me to do that without filming or recording anything! And with better quality output than I have ever achieved before, thanks to AI!

And while this technology can be used for good (as I present here), it can also be use for evil, creating deepfakes, and provides some ideas for upcoming story lines in my crime thriller writing! But, we’ll only use it for good, right? RIGHT!

Background

A little backstory: I've never had much luck with my voice. In ninth grade, I was one of the few who didn't make the choir, out of 104 students who auditioned! Fast forward to today, and while I no longer have a dedicated filming space like I did when I conducted online training courses, AI has stepped in to save the day. With tools that can do face swaps, voice cloning, and lip-syncing, creating content has never been more accessible or exciting. And it is higher quality than my previous efforts.

Over the past year, these AI tools have improved massively. I'm talking about using MY face instead of an avatar, cloning MY voice, and perfectly syncing my lips to the spoken words. The tools I experimented with last year have made leaps and bounds in their capabilities.

Step-by-Step Guide

Let's break down how you can harness this technology for your own content creation. First, the tools that I use include Synthesys, PlayHT, and Canva. I have an inexpensive lifetime subscription to Synthesys, and annual subscriptions to Canva and PlayHT, (both which I use for a lot of different purposes).

Step 1: Your Image

First, you need a good-quality image of yourself. It should be square, around 512 x 512 pixels, and in JPG or PNG format. Make sure your face is front-facing and your mouth is closed.

This will be the base for your AI-generated avatar, and I uploaded it in my case to Synthesys to use instead of the many avatars they provide. (I want this to look like ME!)

Step 2: Cloning Your Voice

Voice cloning technology has seen incredible advancements. While Eleven Labs is the industry leader, it’s quite expensive. I found Synthesys and PlayHT to be very cost-effective alternatives. Creating a clone of your voice is straightforward. Record about a minute of natural-sounding speech, clean up the audio using tools like Audacity, and upload it to the voice cloning software. This process might take a few tries to get perfect, but it’s well worth the effort. (I also want my audios to sound like ME!)

Step 3: Creating Your Lip-Syncing Avatar

For the lip-syncing part, Synthesys shines. Even though I prefer the voice quality from PlayHT, Synthesys offers excellent lip-syncing and face-swapping capabilities along with voice cloning. But I chose the extra step of doing my audios in PlayHT as I thought it was better and worth the few extra minutes it took to integrate that into the process with Synthesys.

Once you have your custom voice clone, in PlayHT, you can then ongoing create your audios in PlayHT, and upload your audio file to Synthesys, then select your face, and generate your talking head lip-syncing video.

Step 4: Putting It All Together

For final video creation, I use Canva because of its simplicity and integration with Synthesys. Canva allows me to add background scenes, text overlays, and other objects effortlessly.

By setting up templates in Canva, I can create compelling videos in 15-45 minutes, without the need for any video or audio recording or editing, saving me hours of work per video by using these AI tools.

So, why am I so excited about this? These tools eliminate the need for a dedicated filming space, perfect voice conditions, or extensive editing. You can create video book trailers, podcasts, online training courses, and social media videos, even if you’re lounging in your pajamas with a sore throat. The possibilities are endless, and the process is easy and cost-effective.

I've got to admit something: I’m terrible at learning foreign languages. Really, it's like my brain has a built-in filter that messes up pronunciations. Maybe it's because I have a lazy ear, making it hard for me to catch the right sounds. It’s the same with music. As a trumpet player (or at least I used to be), I can read and play the notes just fine, but when it comes to ad-libbing or picking up tunes by ear, I fall short.

Over the years, I’ve tried my hand at a few languages. I’ve managed to converse in Bahasa Indonesian and Spanish because they’re phonetically close to English. Learning enough to get directions and order a meal was a must when I travelled for business to many different locations.

But Portuguese? That’s a whole different ball game. While the vocabulary comes easily, understanding native speakers and getting the pronunciation right is a real struggle for me.

Except for "Outra cerveja, por favor," of course! I can ask for another beer in a dozen different languages! But I’m determined to spend more time in Portugal, learning to make Portuguese tarts! After all, it was a Portuguese tart recipe in my crime triller, FALSE TRUST, that help solve a murder mystery and save the heroine!

In minutes, I have a complete set of lessons with English and Portuguese text side-by-side and audio files ready to play. My pronunciation has been improving remarkably quickly. I’m loving it!
